Ask people to name the most anticipated K-drama of 2026 and many will say this one. Writer Noh Hee-kyung ('Our Blues') meets director Lee Yoon-jung ('Coffee Prince'), with Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo acting together for the first time — a 22-episode Netflix series titled 'Tantara' internationally, slated for Q4 2026, with reports pointing to a December premiere.

The Story

The backdrop is the dawn of Korea's entertainment industry in the 1960s-80s, an era where brutality, violence, and romance coexisted. It follows young people who charged toward success with nothing but themselves. Song Hye-kyo plays Min-ja, a tenacious woman who sees the potential of Korea's music industry in a barren landscape and dives in; Gong Yoo plays Dong-gu, her childhood friend and a free spirit. The age of trot singers and live bands, tearooms and theater restaurants — the prototype of show business before K-pop, seen through Noh Hee-kyung's eyes.

Why It Matters

First, the pairings are new. Song Hye-kyo and Noh Hee-kyung reunite for a third collaboration after 'Worlds Within' (2008) and 'That Winter, the Wind Blows' (2013) — thirteen years later — but Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo have never shared a project before. For Gong Yoo it carries extra meaning: it reunites him with director Lee Yoon-jung roughly 19 years after 'Coffee Prince' (2007). Second, the scale: a 22-episode epic, with Korean media reporting a production budget in the range of 75 billion won. Third, the track record — the warmth of 'Dear My Friends' and 'Our Blues' now aimed at the show business world of half a century ago.

What We Know So Far
