KCON LA 2026

Cover Dance Contests & Shows — Weekly Roundup, First Week of July 2026

A weekly roundup of contest, show, and challenge news from cover dance scenes around the world. This week: the crew that conquered the U.S. qualifier, the massive stage heating up LA in August, and the World Final heading to Seoul this fall.

Recent Results — After Dark Reclaims the U.S. Crown

At the 2026 K-Pop Cover Dance Festival in USA, held May 23 on a special stage at LA LIVE, After Dark, a seven-member female crew from Salt Lake City, Utah, took the title. Covering Kep1er's "YUM" in pink outfits and fur boots, they won over the judges with razor-sharp formations and sweeping movement. Their comeback story added to the buzz: champions in 2024, third place last year, and now back on top. After Dark will represent the U.S. at the World Final in Seoul this fall.

KCON LA's DANCE STAGE is practically a pilgrimage site for cover dancers: three straight days of artist-taught point choreography sessions and crowd-participation random play dance. This year's theme is "Walk in SOUL CITY."

The World Final is the championship stage of the world's largest K-pop cover dance competition, hosted by the Seoul Shinmun and now in its 16th year, gathering crews who won their national qualifiers, including the U.S. We will update this page as soon as exact dates are announced.

Songs Ruling the Cover Scene Right Now

  • Golden — HUNTR/X: Since becoming the first K-pop song to win Best Original Song at the Academy Awards on March 15, it has locked in its spot as the number-one random play dance track. The moonwalk-style glide into a bow-drawing arm motion is the signature move.
  • RUDE! — Hearts2Hearts: The single released February 20 swept the challenge scene, and the June 22 mini album "Lemon Tang" is keeping the momentum going. The shoulder-brush intro flowing into hand signs is easy to pick up. → Hearts2Hearts covers
  • Spaghetti — LE SSERAFIM: The b-side that climbed the charts this half-year on the strength of its "fork twirl" wrist motion, winding like spaghetti on a fork. → LE SSERAFIM covers
  • Gabriela — KATSEYE: The steering-wheel hand motion and marching-band formations have made it a staple for large-crew challenges.
  • Do your dance — RIIZE: Title track of the June mini album "II." Its killer dance break has boy-group cover crews picking it up fast.
