Sobaeksan at a Glance
Walking along the gentle ridge of the dirt mountain, you'll suddenly encounter an open meadow at the summit. Above the exotic scenery, often called the 'Alps of Korea', light pink azaleas carpet the ground in June. The cool breeze at the hard-earned summit and the endless panorama of mountain ranges are the best reward in themselves.

Why June is Good (Seasonal Highlights)
Early June is the most perfect time to visit Sobaeksan. Along the ridges of Birobong and Yeonhwabong, the largest azalea colonies in Korea are in full bloom, creating a spectacular scene as if pink paint has been spread across the mountains. It's also the last chance to enjoy hiking in relatively pleasant weather before the monsoon season (expected late June) and the summer heat begin in earnest. Especially this year, Memorial Day (6/6) falls on a Thursday, making a 4-day long weekend possible with a day of annual leave, which is great for leisurely exploring Sobaeksan and Danyang on a 2-day, 1-night trip.
Tips for Foreign Visitors
- Navigation: As it's a national park, major hiking trails and summit signs are marked with English, Chinese, and Japanese, so there's less worry about getting lost.
- Payment: Most restaurants and shops in Danyang city accept card payments, but it's convenient to prepare cash when using small shops at the entrance of hiking trails or taxis.
- Hiking Culture: Koreans you meet while hiking may greet you with "Annyeonghaseyo" (Hello). Say hello back and experience Korea's friendly hiking culture. At the mountain peak, people usually eat kimbap or snacks they brought.
Nearby Attractions
- Danyang Gugyeong Market: This place is full of Danyang's specialty foods made with garlic, suchs as black garlic dakgangjeong, garlic bread, and garlic sundae. It's perfect for satisfying your hunger after hiking.
- Mancheonha Skywalk: Experience the thrill of walking high above the Namhangang river at 80-90m. You can view Danyang's scenery from a different angle than Sobaeksan.
- Dodamsambong: Considered the first of Danyang Palgyeong, the scenery created by the three unique rock formations rising above the Namhangang river is like a painting. We recommend taking a cruise ship to admire it up close.
