Gwangyang — Home of Maesil, an Early-Summer Trip along the Seomjin River
Gwangyang, in Jeonnam Province, is the home of maesil (Korean green plum), set along the Seomjin River. In June the riverside plum orchards fill with pale-green fruit, and the town busies itself harvesting maesil and curing plum syrup. With the clear Seomjin River, the valleys of Mt. Baegun, and charcoal-grilled Gwangyang bulgogi, it makes a fine early-summer trip for food and scenery.

Gwangyang's Summer Charm
Gwangyang weaves together the Seomjin River and the slopes of Mt. Baegun. It's famous for plum blossoms in spring, but the highlight of early summer in June is the maesil harvest and the rows of clay jars at Cheongmaesil Farm. In midsummer, cool off in Mt.
